Frequently asked questions.

What methods do you use?

There is no one size fits all when it comes to sleep training; indeed, there are often many different ways to achieve your goals. I will listen to your wishes and consider your parenting style when recommending strategies to address your child’s sleep issues. If you don’t feel comfortable about a specific method, we won’t use it.

Will my child cry?

The short answer is “probably”. No matter which method of sleep training we choose, babies and children cry to communicate with us. They may be confused or unhappy about changes we are making, and cry to tell us this. This doesn’t mean that they will be left to cry by themselves. You will be on hand to support them, and I will be on hand to support you.

How long will it take to see an improvement in my child’s sleep?

This depends on what issues are involved, and what methods we use. It is normal to expect a bit of trial and error while we finetune our plan, so it can take a little while to get things right. However, in most cases, you will see a significant change within a week. Typically, things will continue to improve as your skills and confidence grow.

Can you guarantee my child’s sleep will improve?

There are no 100% guarantees. For example, there may be factors at play that I am not aware of, such as medical or environmental issues. Consistency and perseverance on your part are also essential. Before deciding to address your child’s sleep issues, it is important that you are ready to commit to following through with our plan.

Will I be tied to a routine once sleep training starts?

For babies, it is helpful to be home for the first week of sleep training. You will still be able to get out and about between naps, but it’s easier if you can defer scheduled classes or appointments. This keeps the focus on responding to your baby’s primary needs for food and sleep, and allows you the time and space to build your skills and confidence. Over time, you will become more adept at building flexibility into your routine so you can resume your regular activities.

With older children, during the first week of sleep training it is important to keep fixed elements of their daily routine – such as school or pre-school – in place whilst clearing their schedule of extras such as clubs or playdates. In the short term, these can impact on nap times or evening routines. Once your plan is up and running well, you can adapt your routine to accommodate the extras.

Does my chosen feeding method affect sleep training?

I will support you however you feed your baby. I am trained in supporting breastfeeding mothers through the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers, and experienced in working with babies who are breastfed, bottle fed, or combination fed.

What geographical area do you cover?

My Home Visit package includes a consultation in your home if you live within 15 miles of Fleet, Hampshire (GU51). Outside of this area, you may choose to pay an additional fee to cover my travelling time and expenses, or opt for a consultation via Zoom. Zoom consultations are offered anywhere within the UK or indeed the world.

What age groups do you work with?

I usually work with children from birth to 6 years of age. If your child is older than this and you would like support, please get in touch and we can talk through your situation.

Is there a discount for siblings?

This depends on your situation. Usually twins will be covered by the same package at no extra charge, unless a significant amount of extra work is required by me. Siblings of different ages will usually need two separate plans, although there will be areas of overlap. This represents a significant amount of extra work for me, so this would be reflected in the price you are charged. However, I am happy to offer a discount for the second child if our consultation covers both children at the same time. Please contact me to discuss your situation.

What are your qualifications?

I have a Level 5 qualification as a Sleep Practitioner with the London School of Childcare Studies, in addition to an Honours degree in Children’s Development and Learning, a Diploma of Teaching (Early Childhood), a Graduate Diploma of Education (Children’s Literature) and a Diploma in Home-based Childcare. I am trained in Safeguarding and Paediatric First Aid. I am a mother of three adult children and an experienced infant school teacher, childminder and nursery practitioner.

How do I pay?

You will receive an invoice by email once your consultation has been booked. Payment is made by BACS transfer into my bank account. All payments must be received by me 48 hours before our consultation. See my Terms and Conditions for further information about payments.
